The setting takes place in 1995, fifteen years before the events of Ace Combat 5, centering on a war between the Allied and Belka forces. In the game, the player takes on the role of a fighter pilot named Cipher. During the gameplay, the player is helped by his fellow mercenary named Larry Foulke. Most of the narrative is played through the perspective of Brett Thompson, who is an Osean journalist. While playing the game, the player needs to face rival pilots throughout the game and must destroy them for advanced levels. Like other titles, the game features only a Single-player mode and offers the similar gameplay that is a blend of authentic flight simulation and arcade flight. There are over fifty licensed real-world aircraft available, and the locations and events of the game are set in the fictional world. The main campaign takes place during the conflict between nations of Yuktobania and Osea. The plot revolves around the protagonist named Blaze, who is a fighter pilot and he must need to lead a four-plane unit called Wardog Squadron. It has three different modes such as Arcade, a Campaign, and an optional Tutorial. Unlike the previous games, the game doesn’t offer a multiplayer mode. The game acts as semi-realistic flight simulator, and it is the first entry to release for PS2 and the 4th title in the series of Ace Combat. Throughout the game, the player has a chance to buy 21 different aircraft and their weaponry. Each plane with two pain schemes, gained by ranking on a stage in normal difficulty level. There are three difficulty levels, and each one has a different number of enemies that determine the complexity of the stage. It takes place in the fictional world in the Universe of Ace Combat, set on the continent of USEA after the event of the previous title. The plot of the game indicates that before the events, the world was invaded by asteroids. In the game, the player assumes the role of the protagonist named Mobius 1, who an elite fighter pilot is working in the ISAF air arm. Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies includes core features, action-packed gameplay, and detailed graphics.

It takes the player in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during the event of WWII. In the game, the player takes on the role of the protagonist named William Crowe, who is an American. In the story, the protagonist’s brother named Charlie is murdered during an attack. After that, the player comes under the command of Admiral Daniel Howells at Wake Island.
