The game serves as the prequel to Dead Space video game released in 2008. The plot takes place before the events of the previous title and during the same time as the movie, Dead Space: Downfall. The story follows a team of space colonists from the Aegis VII colony battling against enemies created when the Red Marker is eliminated. According to the plot, Necromorophs are mutated corpses of humans and act as the massive antagonists of the game. The player, using the first-person viewpoint, can explore the environment to kill enemies using a set of weapons.
