After people emerge from the Vault, the player is connected by the Vault Overseer. As the story advances, the player reveals that the Vault was offered a secret mandate to defend an arsenal of nuclear weapons deployed over Appalachia. In the game, the player explores the environment from a first-person viewpoint and he also has a chance to play alone or with party of up to three characters. The private servers of the game enables the player to invite friends and to prevent the unexpected aspects of PvP gameplay, including grieving from affecting the experience of the player.
