The game puts the player in charge of the protagonist named Kain, who is a slain resurrected as a vampire. According to the plot, the player is searching for his murderer to revenge and a cure to his vampire curse. In the game, the player is tasked with traveling the fictional world of Nosgoth and killing the Circle of Nine, an evil oligarchy of sorcerers, but slowly starts to forsake humankind and explore his transformation as a blessing.
